What is a Master CFI?
Fewer than 200 flight instructors have achieved Master CFI. Master CFI is a NAFI (National Association of Flight Instructors) designation for well-rounded instructors, and recognized by the FAA. For this designation an instructor must have instructed for long enough to earn credits. Credits are earned for such things as quality instructional ability, publications, mentoring of other CFIs, community volunteering, and further training to mention a few. Credits must be earned in many of these categories. After all this work, it is a designation that is good for only two years. The ongoing renewal process encourages quality instructors to continue striving for a well-rounded career.
The Master CFI designation sets a standard that more and more students will consider when choosing an instructor. Due to the difficulty of obtaining this rating, time-building and short-time instructors cannot achieve the Master CFI designation.
